The Western Downs region of Queensland is a local government area around the size of Switzerland. Located on the Darling Downs, it includes the townships of Wandoan, Miles, Chinchilla, Tara and Dalby – though it also services towns further away like Kingaroy, Goondiwindi and Roma. The Western Downs is also home to the largest state forest in the southern hemisphere, the 280,000 hectare Barakula State Forest.
