Highly regarded media personality and keen supporter of the retirement village sector, Glenn Wheeler, was knocked off his motor scooter on Saturday, suffering severe head injuries and a severed artery in one leg.

While the next 48 hours are critical, he has stabilised after nine hours of surgery.

The 54-year-old father of three was struck side on when a van cut a corner and did not give way at an intersection.

The 59-year-old female driver was on her way to the police station to report as part of her bail conditions for an unrelated assault charge.

Glenn has the thoughts of the whole retirement village community behind him.
