Now they are in a bitter fight with the Archbishop of Los Angeles over the sale of their convent.

The Archbishop wants to sell it to the pop star Katy Perry for $14.5 million in cash. The nuns will have none of it.
They don’t like Katy’s preferred attire of skimpy clothing on stage and having a hit titled ‘I kissed a girl … and I liked it.'

The nuns say the sale would “violate our canonical vows to the Catholic Church." They have tried to sell it to a local restaurateur but the Archbishop has gone to court to stop it.

Two nuns had been persuaded to sell to Katy Perry but the other nuns say one of them is an octogenarian and was under morphine at the time. It is a stalemate now in the courts.

The eight-acre estate on a hill overlooking Los Angeles was built in 1927 and purchased by the nuns in 1972.
