RetireAustralia has been given approval to build 62 independent living units and a care hub with 10 to 12 beds in the third stage of The Verge at Burleigh Retirement Village in Miami on Qld’s Gold Coast.

The $40-million O’Neill Architecture-designed project is RetireAustralia‘s 28th village and the first stage is the first new development to be built in Queensland with a 4 Start Green Star rating and a gold accreditation for accessible design.

The first stage of the project featured 40 independent living units, with the under-construction second stage of 66 units scheduled for completion early next year.

The care hub will provide 24-hour, seven-day support for the residents with a Registered Nurse oversight and options for palliative care.

RetireAustralia’s CEO Dr Brett Robinson said it was important that people were able to age in place and live as much of their life in the same environment while being able to do what they wanted.

“They can live their life how they wish and receive the care they need in their home,” he said. “And we can provide the support they need if they have to step into a high-acuity environment without them needing to leave the community.”

The Verge, which overlooks Burleigh Golf Course, features one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
