Charlie Camilleri is seeking approval to build the two seven-storey buildings next to a planned shopping centre in Mount Pleasant, north of the city centre.

The retirement village would have 109 units while the hotel would have 114 rooms.

Mr Camilleri originally proposed building office blocks on the site three years ago, but the application was rejected by the Mackay Regional Council after it changed the zoning for the land.

It now appears Council is on board, with its director of development services Gerard Carlyon saying it was “very excited” by the new plan.

“We’re very keen for the project to go ahead. We’re going to seriously consider some serious incentives (to help that happen),” he stated.

The well-known local is also ready to get the project up and running, with plans to sell 25 to 30% of the units before the village is built, saying “Let’s get this show on the road."
