GemLife has been refused permission to build part of its new over-50s lifestyle resort GemLife Tweed Waters in far north NSW onsite.

Tweed Shire Council has rejected two requests from GemLife after it was given approval to build a resort at Tweed Heads South. It estimated the project would cost $33.9 million to build a 211 site resort when submitted to Ballina Shire Council in 2016.

The first of the requests was for a variation of the condition of consent to allow the manufactured homes for sites 39, 40 and 85 to 96 to be built onsite.

The request, also denied, related to the addition of pergolas that required variations to site coverage, open space and site boundary arrangements.

GemLife’s contractors have been working on the site for five months, and state GemLife Tweed Waters will feature just under 100 homes with a two-storey country club with a roof-top swimming pool.

Homebuyers can choose between ten two- or three-bedroom pet-friendly home designs, each with two facade options, and five colour-scheme choices.
