Residents of Stockland’s Cardinal Freeman Retirement Village were joined by the Channel 7’s Better Homes and Gardens presenter this week to plant a new community garden.

The visit saw a range of seasonal veggies planted for residents to enjoy soon, including beetroot, spinach and cauliflower. Mr Ross also shared his expert gardening knowledge on compost and gardening as a form of exercise with the budding green thumbs.

“I love to see people get passionate about gardening. Gardening is a fantastic form of exercise for you as you age for complete wellbeing. At the end of the day, we want the residents of Cardinal Freeman to be happy, healthy and engaged with nature and this new community garden will provide that,” he said.

Residents were also delight with the result. “Having a community garden expands upon the ability to not only have flowers and natives around me but now I can come up here and have vegetables to get produce and eat natural,” Cardinal Freeman resident Sandra Kerr said.

Redevelopment well on track

The garden forms part of the new village green created as part of the $180 million redevelopments of Cardinal Freeman.

The redevelopment is right on schedule with the first two buildings from stage one sold out and over 100 new residents already moving into their new apartments. Stockland has also finished work on a 100-seat indoor and outdoor café and restoration of the historic chapel and is soon set to officially open the new Clubhouse which features a bar lounge, billiards room, health club and indoor pool.

On completion, the village will be home to seven boutique buildings featuring 240 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, each with their own underground car parking space and storage.

Located just ten kilometres from the Sydney CBD close to the inner city suburb of Summer Hill, the site has received strong interest from buyers.

“We have received fantastic feedback on the development so far and seen strong demand from Sydney retirees who are keen to acquire a new, low-maintenance, high-lifestyle home within a welcoming community,” Mark Maybury, Cardinal Freeman Village Manager, said.
