The $200 million Aveo Newstead community has been presented the Award for Design Excellence at the National Retirement Living Awards 2018 at Parliament House in Canberra.

Brisbane’s first integrated retirement community has been recognised for its world-class community and building typology, combining independent premium retirement living with sophisticated residential aged care options and lifestyle amenities above a vibrant urban village.

The incorporation of care and health services  into the building’s design ensures residents can age in place from independent living through to residential aged care by providing all levels of care within the one community, along with premium lifestyle facilities such as a gym, day spa, library, private movie theatre, restaurant and bar, business centre and beauty salon as well as a medical and allied health suite. This allows important connections including family, friends and support networks to remain unchanged as circumstances change.

Features of the development include a range of one, two and three bedroom apartments and penthouses to cater for a wide variety of needs and support services. Independent living apartments include simple design considerations to maximise flexibility such as generous spaces to allow for mobility devices, raised appliances and swipe card entry while no step thresholds reduce trip hazards and falls.

The National Retirement Living Awards recognise high achievement across all areas of the retirement living sector, by people and companies helping ensure senior Australians have an enjoyable retirement. Awards are presented in seven categories from nominations across Australia.
