Logan City Council, 26km south of Brisbane, has given DA approval to build a vertical village that will deliver 450 retirement village units and 300 aged care rooms.

The complex will include three 12 to 15 storey buildings plus two buildings of four stories.

In an interesting twist the DA approval has been granted to Cromcorp, a developer new to the retirement and village sector. The owner, Greg Poole, tells us that he will seek out an experienced operator or a group of operators to manage the village and care businesses; he will not be an operator himself.

Logan City Council is promoting the development as a significant new business and that it will feature the tallest building in the region at 15 stories. The next tallest is just six stories.

(The largest village in Australia is currently being built by Roger Kwong’s Arcadia Communities. Called Hidden Valley at Wallan, north of Melbourne, it will eventually be over 1,000 units).
