Is this the longest running dispute? Tribunal orders sons to sell QLD ILU’s, or else

Since 2006 two unrelated sons of former residents of Urimbirra Retirement Village (Hervey Bay) have been demanding the operator, Millie Phillips’ Milstern Retirement Living, to pay them the value of their late parents’ ILU’s.

Last week the Tribunal backed Milstern by ordering the sons to sell the ILU’s themselves by June 30 and if not sold by then, they must be auctioned. Milstern has to pay the sale costs. The disputes arose when the two ILU’s were valued in 2006 at $55,000 after exit fees by Milstern but $109,500 and $122,500 respectively by a Government valuer (after repairs).

Milstern last year offered just $35-40,000, stating the disrepair of the ILU’s made them only suitable for demolition. Milstern has sought information about deregistering the village. Millie Phillips is the sole director. Aged 82, she made her wealth in nickel mining before entering hotels and retirement.
