What do I need to do if my loved one can no longer cope alone at home, or I am no longer able to continue providing the level of care required?

You will need to contact the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) in your area to arrange an assessment for yourself or your loved one.  The level of care nominated on the assessment will determine which aged care facilities you are suitable for.

Once your ACAT assessment is completed and you are eligible for aged care accommodation, you can start your visit to potential aged care homes.

There are many aged care facilities and providers. You will need to do some research to find one that suits your needs. By selecting a reputable organisation and one that is committed to delivering a high standard of care, you will be assured of a great quality of life for your time within the facility.

Why do I need to get an assessment?
The Assessment team will decide if you or your loved one needs Low or High Level Care support. This will then determine which facility you will need to look for.

Each person also has to undergo an asset test through Centrelink. This is independent of any facility and is a Government requirement.
