About this Property

Garden City Aged Care Services

The Community

Alzheimer’s Queensland has proudly operated Garden City Aged Care Services since late 2004.  This 55-bed purpose built home has two accommodation options.  Firstly, single room ensuites with kitchenette and secondly, a homelike secure cottage called Palm Court.  We also have permanently allocated palliative care ensuites.

The kitchenette rooms enable independent and private living whilst providing high care to meet the varying needs of our residents.  Residents have the opportunity to enjoy personal time in their own rooms or enjoy their day and spend time with visitors in the newly refurbished lounge and outdoor patio.  Similarly, Palm Court with a feel of a boutique hotel, promotes home life with quiet spaces and opportunities for participation in everyday activities such as home style cooking.

At Garden City all meals are freshly prepared on site daily and the home cooking allows the smells and activity to create an environment reminiscent of every day home life.

Garden City boasts a robust lifestyle program with a range of group and individual activities for residents including cultural days, music programs, shopping trips, art classes and flexibility and fitness sessions.  The wellness and enablement approach is also reinforced through access to a range of specialist professionals such as dentist, physiotherapist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist and podiatrist.

Garden City’s excellence in care is reflected in the numerous awards it has won, for example, Better Practice award in 2012 for the leisure and lifestyle program and Better Practice award in 2014 for use of technology.

At Garden City, all residents benefit from our staffs distinct knowledge, skills and expertise in dementia care.  Our staff undergo regular training in dementia care to ensure that their skills are maintained and that their care reflects our underlying philosophy based on the value and individual choices of our residents.  Furthermore, Garden City has 24 hour registered nursing on site to support complex care and medical needs of residents who may need a higher level of care.

The home is conveniently located on Tryon Street, Upper Mount Gravatt and is within easy walking distance to the Garden City Shopping Centre.

Alzheimer's Queensland

The Operator

Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is a founding member of Alzheimer’s Australia and the largest Alzheimer’s Association in Australia. From its earliest beginnings in 1983, AQ has been working to empower older people, especially people with dementia and their carers to maintain a socially valued life. We are here to make a real change and make growing old a positive experience for Older Australians by developing healthy ageing initiatives.

The Association has been working to challenge stereotypes and develop innovative programs that promote wellbeing and support independence in older age. Our mission is to work collectively with our clients to maintain their dignity, remain socially and physically active, and deter premature placement in residential facilities. We believe that each individual has a unique set of experiences and abilities that should be celebrated and optimised at every stage of life. We pay added attention to needs of consumers from the LGBTI and diverse cultural backgrounds. AQ’s specialist staff and supporters share our belief and work everyday with our clients to empower them to have a good life.

AQ provides statewide support, education, information, and direct care services. The Association owns and operates three Aged Care Homes, four Multi Service Centres, a 24 hour Advice Line and a Dementia Care Hub which collectively deliver residential and community care, and statewide support services.

AQ has also been supporting families and carers, professional health and aged care providers for the past three decades through information and education. We want to share knowledge and promote a healthy future for everyone.

In addition, the Association continues to serve as a peak body for people with dementia, and as such aims to be an effective advocate for those whose lives have been affected by the disease.
