In partnership with Bowls Australia residents of two of their villages – Stockland Unity Retirement Village in Aberfoyle Park and Hillsview Retirement Village in Happy Valley were recently offered the opportunity to participate in free coaching sessions with Australian international lawn bowler and six-time gold medallist Karen ‘Nanna’ Murphy, who most recently represented Australia at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Stockland’s Hillsview Retirement Village – which is one of the retirement living operators’ 11 villages across Adelaide – has a competition-sized, natural turf bowling green and at the two, free one-hour sessions on Monday 14 May residents received tips on how to improve their skills and lawn bowling techniques.

According to Stockland SA area manager David Young the coaching sessions were another way to support the residents to engage with like-minded residents and pursue an active and fulfilling retirement.

The residents obviously found the lessons invaluable with advice to “getting down low, close to the ground and playing cleanly and slowly” just one of the many tips on the day.
