Retirement villages contain a strong community of like-minded individuals who want to live safely and comfortably surrounded by people in similar stages of life.

Barbara Armstrong is a resident at Links Seaside by Warrigal, which is on the border of Wollongong Golf Club, who has just returned from a trip with 33 of the residents to Tasmania.

24 of them played the course at Royal Hobart & Tasmania Golf Club. Barbara said it followed a trip to Launceston 12 months earlier. This trip was organised by Travel on Crown.

“There was a competition, with a prize at the end of every day, it was great fun, everyone really enjoyed it,” she said.

Barbara said she only started playing once she moved to the Links and loves the opportunity to play as the course adjoining the village.

“Once a month there is a ‘Warrigal Links Seaside’ golf competition, mixed with both men and women. About 20 people participate.

Barbara was at pains to state that if a resident is not a golfer, they are not excluded.

“The villagers organise activities amongst themselves, with regular outings to Sydney to see shows, and local bus trips,” she said.

“There are fantastic amenities on-site to keep active and social: gym, pool, sauna, tennis court, cinema, library, restaurant. The Links Seaside has it all!

“It’s a completely unique retirement village and really does offer a resort lifestyle for over 55s.”
