Every year five or more retirement village fires occur.

Recently firefighters were called to a blaze at a retirement village in Creswick about 2.50pm on 29 June and quickly brought the fire under control, but one unit was destroyed and at least two others were damaged.

All nearby residents were evacuated, with at least seven fire units on scene.

Two residents, a man in his 80s and a woman in her 50s were assessed for smoke inhalation according to an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson.

There were no serious injuries.

A reminder of the need for fire alarms, evacuation procedures, staff training and resident education.
