RetireAustralia’s Scarborough Mews retirement village is celebrating the recent achievement of a Medal of the Order of Australia awarded to village resident Peter Sandercock, for his service to the community and involvement in Rotary.

Peter was given the award on Australia Day, on which his long history of service was admired. His experiences include holding a number of leadership positions with Rotary since 1988, whilst also being a Justice of the Peace for 35 years.

Peter is also a life member of Sacred Heart Old Collegians Association, and has volunteered for the Hutt Street Centre and Glenelg Catholic Parish. His dedication to so many associations and initiatives is certainly well deserved.

“Receiving the honour was certainly a surprise and a humbling experience,” he said of the ceremony, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Scarborough Mews Village Manager Debbie Dean said everyone at the village was delighted for Peter.

“Peter has given so much to the community over the years and we are so happy his work has been recognised with the OAM,” she said. “It’s very well deserved.”

Peter’s community sensitivity and spirit has been enriched since becoming a member of the Scarborough Mews community. In 2016, Peter made the move to Scarborough Mews after spotting an advert by chance.

“It was perhaps good fortune that I sighted the advert and, on inspecting the property, realised it met all that I required,” he said.

“It also met with unanimous approval from my family!”

“I have enjoyed the company of other residents who warmly welcomed me in to the community, and I have also been very impressed with the staff, whom I have regular contact with.”
