Whether it\u2019s to be closer to family, friends, or healthcare services, one thing many people consider is the location.<\/strong><\/p><p>One couple I spoke with, who had raised their children in a large home in Mount Isa, Queensland, made the decision to retire closer to their daughter. They were drawn to Hometown Australia\u2019s Sunrise community in Port Stephens, just a short two-and-a-half-hour drive away. They told me, \u201cWe\u2019ve always wanted to live by the sea, and we got the bush thrown in too! There\u2019s so much to do both inside and outside the resort.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>Things to think about when downsizing from the family home<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong> Access to healthcare<\/strong><br \/>It\u2019s always reassuring to have healthcare options close by. Choosing a retirement village or land lease community near hospitals, doctors, pharmacies, and allied health services can provide peace of mind in case of medical needs.<\/li><li><strong> Social and recreational activities<\/strong><br \/>Retirement is all about enjoying life, and many communities offer plenty of opportunities for socialising and recreation. From travel to fitness activities, you\u2019ll find a range of things to do. Plus, it\u2019s nice to have restaurants nearby that offer discounts with a Seniors Card.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>3. Whether it\u2019s beach walks, river picnics, or bush hikes, a location you enjoy can greatly improve your quality of life.<\/p><ol start=\"4\"><li><strong> Transportation and accessibility<\/strong><br \/>As we get older, getting around can become more difficult. Look for a retirement village in an area that\u2019s easy to navigate. Being near public transport, having walking paths, or even a shuttle bus service can help you maintain independence and easily access services, errands, and visits with family.<\/li><li><strong> Family and friends<\/strong><br \/>Many retirees want to stay close to family and friends. A village near your loved ones can make frequent visits easier and prevent feelings of isolation.
