A 101-year-old World War II veteran at Levande’s Somerton Park retirement village in Adelaide has had a street named in his honour.
Keith Fowler (pictured), the last surviving member of Australia’s 2/3rd Machine Gun Battalion, served with distinction in Syria and Java before being captured by the Japanese and forced to work for over three years on the infamous Thai-Burma Railway.
After the war, Keith spent three decades working for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, and has spent the past 15 years at Levande Somerton Park. To recognise his service, Levande has named a street at Somerton Park “Fowler Lane” after him.
“Keith is one of Levande Somerton Park’s most treasured residents who inspires his neighbours and our staff with his positive and happy nature,” said Levande’s SA Operations Manager, Christian MacIntosh.
“He is a real character who loves a good chat, making him very popular around the community. Keith always has time to socialise with his neighbours and friends.
“It is with great pride that Levande Somerton Park has unveiled Fowler Lane in appreciation of Keith’s commitment to service.”
A fitting honour for a remarkable man.
