Seniors housing opens in Huon Valley

28th February, 2011

Tasmania's Huonville in the Huon Valley has welcomed the opening of 28 new two-bedroom seniors housing units. The Pine Lane development called St James Village was created under a partnership of the state and federal governments and the Anglican Church.

The units have a six star energy rating and include features such as grab rails and lever style door handles and taps, catering for residents with mobility constraints.

"Not only are these new homes for older Tasmanians - it is a new community," Minister for Human Services Cassy O'Connor said.

"The complex will enable residents to live close to the Huonville shops and services, and also draw upon all the benefits of being part of a supportive community at a similar stage of life.

"This convenience also enables older residents to stay independent for longer."

It is the second seniors housing development to be completed in Huon Valley in the past 2 months with a six-unit complex recently unveiled in Knopwood Lane, Huonville.

Enquiries can be made to STEPS on 03 62310959. Tenants are expected to be able to move in from the second week in February.
