Two stories this week that demonstrate the contribution that state resident associations can and do deliver the sector and operators.

First up, perhaps the most distressing village predicament has been unfolding on the Central Coast of NSW where a village has stalled for six years (mortgagee in possession) with approximately 10 units built.

Demonstrating the resident’s predicament is the fact that their units don’t even have a correct water supply, with most of the units receiving tap water through black irrigation pipe sitting on their verandas (see photograph). Electricity supply is equally precarious.

NSW resident association President Jan Pritchett has almost single-handedly been trying to rescue the residents – hosting officers from the Office of Fair Trading, lobbying the local Council, approaching potential operators and the Retirement Living Council.

Second up, this week in Brisbane unsolicited we had three larger operators tell us separately that they had approached the ARQRV and its President Les Armstrong for advice in village resident ‘challenges’. The ARQRV not only gave guidance but also attended several villages supporting the operators, with no recompense but achieving good outcomes for all.
